DNS Server

I am trying to change the DNS server of my router so I can use AdGuard and a few other home server apps. I noticed I couldn’t change the DNS server, I asked customer support about this and they escalated the issue. It took two days to get back with me, only to tell me “It’s not possible to change the DNS server because the router doesn’t support it”. After this he told me to call a number for further assistance and that I had to PAY for it. This is where they lost me, I have a subscription with MEO, I need customer service, and he tells me to call a number and pay for service. This is not the way it is suppose to be. As a customer I suspect service for if something is not working the way it’s suppose to be. During this conversation I also figured out they lock features just because they can. For example the Smart Wifi can not be disabled unless you call technical support. In my opinion this should be changed immediately and we shouldn’t be forced to use a DNS from MEO, especially since they can also see which sites you visit while use their DNS. I want to configure my home network they I want, not the way MEO wants.

Hi @Brian Schuls

The DNS on MEO's Fibergateway routers does not allow DNS configuration, either via the web interface or via technical support. Regarding Smart WiFi, only technical support can disable it, but remember that there is always a free alternative to the number 16209, which is 213 580 144.

If you want to use your network the way you want, you have to use your own router (then you can manage it however you want, as it is your router) and connect the bridge mode on the Fibergateway. This has to be activated via technical support, but it will be the last time you need to contact them, as after that you can manage your router yourself.

Literally what you just mention I have a problem with, I have to call technical support to enable/disable features, it should NOT be like that. I should be able to change any feature I want to.

Back to the DNS. any router should be able to do this, as it’s such a basic feature and there is no valuable excuse for this.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The router is limited, and what you want to do is not available on the web interface or telnet.

@Brian Schuls  .. I agree with you 100% … this is just so pure, normal functionality, that its incredible how these guys can get away with it… so it means that we have to buy an additional router … AND THEN … we have to call them to enable bridge mode … What a 20th century setup !!!! cant wait for my contract to run out… and moving from these people

Hi @couta67

It was previously possible to activate the bridge mode via the web interface and telnet, but this feature has been removed in more recent firmware versions. However, it can still be activated via technical support.

If the goal is only to modify the DNS, this can be done on the device itself.

hi @ana_Paula  .. unfortunately, it does not look like that I can change the primary / secondary DNS .if I go to the settings / WAN or settings lan, I have fixed ip addresses in there, ie: 212.55.xxx.xxx, and I would rather have public DNS’s, such as googles 8.8.8.8 or cloudfare’s 8.8.8.8.

I didn't explain myself well. What I meant was that you can configure the DNS on your device (smartphone, computer), but it is not possible through the router.
